Sharing w/ y’all this adventure I took to the peninsular coast this past 4th of July weekend. πΊπΈ My intention was to bring my zoomy camera to Dungeness Spit for a good view up the ocean to see what I can see, & was to discover a thick atmosphere preventing sight to a good measure, w/ mountains visible way in the background, so at least not a “curve” the boats are going over… After the spit, I was to drive around the northern highway to arrive at the eastern coast, at either South Beach or Kalaloch, hoping to land a camping spot… I ventured on, succeeding at most everything, before finding occupied campsites & little else in sight to lodge, so drove into the mountains, the Olympic National Forest, & searched/hoped for a place to pull off the road, which I eventually did, just after midnight, a cozy little place a ways in & just in time, as I was becoming drowsy from a long-day’s drive & adventure. π
Breakfast at Smitty’s before hitting the road while truck was getting a safety check next door.
Leavenworth, heading outta town.
Perty hills.
At the Edmonds ferry terminal waiting line.
In Edmonds in the waiting line nearer to the boats.
On the ferry heading to Kingston, about 20-30 minutes, easy & calm, w/ restrooms aboard.
A crow chats it up while a goose watches on.
Entrant sailboat.
The goose also wants a photo.
Picturesque.
Kingston ferry terminal.
My route to Dungeness.
Arrived at the Dungeness trail parking area.
Heading down by the water.
The spit visible, going way beyond, rounding a right, w/ a light house at the end…
On the beach, walking up the spit, looking back here.
On the spit moving forward.
Mt. Somethingorother visible, will need to look that up…
Nearby islands, Victoria, Lopez, Whidbey…
Boat.
Closer boat, notice the mountain in the way background, mostly obscured by air/atmosphere…
On the beach looking back.
Dedicated to God.
W/ waves.
Bigger waves.
Looking at the peninsula side…
Such a gift out here.
Shiny water.
My rig partially setup to test the zoomy lens, Nikon P1100.
Looking for boats on the horizon, invisible to naked eye & “brought back” w/ big lens, discovered basically thick fog/atmosphere, will need probably cooler conditions to see farther…
First shots outta the P1100.
Found a boat on the horizon.
There it is.
Wow, great zoom.
Check out that bird action.
Notice the lack of/drop-off of visibility at or near the boat…
People would say this is where it’s going over the curve, although there are mountains still visible way in the background beyond these boats…
Cruisin’.
Ahhh, that one.
Waterslide atop.
Really fancy, awesome.
Quaint & such.
Partial zoom.
Zoomed way out, you can see it in the distance.
W/ mountain & such
Whatever that mountain is, sorry, I’ve yet to look it up… Will do that now.
Ahhh, Mt. Baker it appears, right on.
Nice & bright out here, tied the hood onto my head to keep hat & headphones intact w/ the winds. π
Boat in the further distance.
So scenic.
Great value on the camera. π
The rear-end of the boat, w/ the water just petering off into the vaporous atmosphere.
Great drop-off action.
Birds out.
Mountains visible beyond “drop off,” not a curve, just thick atmosphere.
Structures visible way beyond to the right in this picture.
Great time to be here.
Farewell & tata.
Golden waters.
Got a few trees out here.
Back to iPhone. supplementing w/ musical soundtracks. π¬
The ol’ sun through a tree trick.
Crescent Lake, just passing by, sending texts.
Quite beautiful out here.
Setting sun.
After checking both campsites, all were full, so I drove southward into the Olympic National Forest until I found a suitable pull-over & rested until about 5am.
